Abstract

The advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies has prompted a reevaluation of educational methodologies. These systems are anticipated to be extensively integrated, particularly in online learning environments, to monitor student progress. Furthermore, they are expected to provide alternative solutions for diversifying learning materials, offering personalized learning experiences, and enhancing assessment processes. However, concerns about the ethical implications of these technologies are being raised. Consequently, there is a need to revisit the application of artificial intelligence in education from an instructional design perspective. This book chapter aims to synthesize the various artificial intelligence applications in education, discussing both their positive and negative aspects by drawing from existing literature. This contribution is believed to offer a comprehensive perspective on artificial intelligence applications in education, thereby enriching the existing body of knowledge.
